And now, for something completely different

place where i live at da moment, my home town, is a relatively quiet place. not much is happening. super local town.

HOWEVER

for some strange reason, few weeks ago a Tunisian restaurant opened.
yes, a TUNISIAN restaurant.
WHY Tunisian? why in this local town? i mean... where da hell is Tunisia anyway!? is it in Africa!?

so i decided to check it out

hmm... so it's this brown part... that's Tunisia eh?


i c... i c... right next to Libya. so it's more like Middle Eastern than African...



me n mum decided to try out this Tunisian food. had absolutely no idea what it's like.
checked da menu... yups, it's definitely Islamic food coz there's no pork and they don't serve alcohol. lots of lamb meat and tomato based dishes.
so we ordered whatever cought our eyes.

this is called Brik (pronounced breek), egg, potatoes, parsley covered in crepe and deep fried.
pretty yummy stuff. when u cut it in half, medium boiled egg came out. mmmmm....



this is Tagine (pronounced tajin), a form of quiche with meat and vegetables in it, cooked in tomato sauce.
da quiche was delicious n i love how da onions are still half raw, coz love da crunchiness!



this is Kefta (pronounced kifta), lamb meat balls cooked in tomato sauce with vegetables.
i've never tasted something like this before. i can't really explain it. i think it's da spice. very... strange taste. but after a while i got used to it, n start to love it! i guess it's one of those dishes that u either like it or hate it.


dishes came with complimentary bread (which contains cumin seeds), together with a paste called Harissa (made from red chili, caraway, coriander and salt). pretty hot stuff! but it goes well with da bread.


finally for dessert, we had Kadi, which contains sesame paste called Chamia (pronounced shamia) and almonds. it looks like samosa doesn't it?
it tasted quite similar to some of da Indian sweets. it was good but four was too much for me. aarrr... slight headache...





to tell u da truth, trying out something totally different was soooooooooooooo fun and exciting to me. but then again, i didn't have da will to even try da sheep brain stew that they had on menu lol.

to tell u da truth, da estate that this restaurant begin is i believe, cursed.
all these years since i grew up, lots of shops (mostly ramen restaurant) comes and goes. it's never steady. previously, it was a chinese restaurant but it closed down in about half a year.
so i hope this restaurant lasts! coz i kinda love it.
da only problem is they don't serve alcohol.
u want to start a restaurant in japan, u gotta serve alcohol. hmm... maybe i should suggest BYO (BYO is not common in japan)

Tagine is so yum!! they way they cook it is amazing too.. have to use this special type of pointy clay pot. *yumyum
